Hop Ups List
What's up guys...I've been really busy since
Sunday the 2nd of April 2006, the day that I put my Savage X through some really
heavy bashing. As usual, I was looking for more weak points on the Savage
X RTR. She lasted a few jumps, but once I upped the ante and increased the
angle of the ramp for some more height, I started breaking things - Success!!
Finally!!! heheh
Here's how the Savage X looked that day I took it out
to bash...
Here's a video clip of one of my jumps/landings that day...it's kinda hard to be my own videographer, so the view is kinda lame, but you get the general idea (and yes, I know it sounds lean, I'm suffering from the 1/2 lean tank issue, remedy below). I wish I would have caught that triple flip on film, but maybe next time :). The ramp is actually about 3 feet lower than where I'm standing, so I figure I was gettin' some decent air...got a good tan that day at least =)
After a few of these and some really really BAD landings, I broke the following:
Chassis TVP right next to motor, behind the
muffler

Drive Shaft...

Stock Shock Absorber

Stock Savage X Lower A Arm

That
day, my final jump resulted in the Savage flipping and landing right nicely, but
smacking the ground so hard that the on/off battery switch flipped to the "off"
position from the impact. Since this happened at wide open throttle, it
proceeded to wheelie wildly, flip over, and spin all 4 tires at full throttle.
For fear that I would lose a finger (LOL) I kicked it around a bit trying to get
it to stop. It finally stopped because the flailing about (or kicking LOL)
resulted in a broken fuel line at the tank.

To solve the "accidental battery switch shut off at WOT" problem, I simply drilled a hole beneath the switch in the would-be "on" position, and put a body clip through the switch and into the hole below as shown. Now, when I turn the battery switch on, I will slip the clip in there and not have to worry about losing power.
Since my work was done that day and the savage was just about completely
incapacitated, I decided to go home and take it apart...
After examining everything (and crying for a while hehe) I decided that the Savage X, out of the box, is more of a "racer" than a basher. So I had to decide what to do...do I rebuild stock or do I upgrade all this stuff?!
Well, I didn't want to PUSS out and fail - and my lust for wonton destRUCtion was boiling over, so I began asking questions and piecing together the Bulletproof Hpi Savage X...
